Rubicon Hotel Motel Thornton

The Rubicon Hotel was first licenced in 1868 and the licensee was a Mr Perkins.

The present Rubicon Hotel was built on the same site in 1962 after the original was razed.

The hotel was known as one of the largest and most modern in rural Victoria, having a capacity to accommodate 130 people.

Darren and Shereen Thomas took over in mid 2013 and, under their management, the pub is taking on an open, relaxed, fun family feel.

The couple have more than 40 years' experience between them and have run hotels in Caulfield and Werribee. Darren is a qualified chef and began his career in 1984.

Shereen has worked in hotels for 25 years both in Australia and internationally.

Together, they plan to make the hotel a community hub, a meeting place, where locals and their families can get together. They plan to take advantage of the extensive parkland surrounding the hotel to build a beer garden in the future.

Their focus isn't only on the locals though as the hotel-motel complex is ideally situated for visitors to take advantage of everything the area has to offer. It is right in the middle of some of the most beautiful scenery Victoria has to offer and is the ideal jumping off spot for fly fishing, four wheel driving, motor bike touring, water sports, snow sports, wineries, and some great restaurants, not to mention the hotel's own restaurant with its diverse menu with ingredients sourced locally.
